Day at the shark tank

We spent a day at the Golden Nugget pool to celebrate Mandy's birthday. The kids had fun on the slide and playing together. Niamh was hilarious, sliding on the seats and splashing everyone around us.

Stake Humanitarian Night

Years ago a went to a stake relief society meeting and blogged about it HERE  Our stake has been doing humanitarian work for a long time but recently the church has asked that we provide relief for those within our own city.  Most services that are done in Las Vegas now stay in Las Vegas.  Once a month we have Humanitarian night, I have to be honest and admit that I haven't gone to one for years.  I knew they made loom hats for babies born early,  in the NICU.  I had heard about PLARN, it's plastic bag strips rolled to make yarn and then woven to make bedrolls for the homeless.  I knew they had coloring stations for kids to participate and color "learning" books for kids in shelters and other homeless/abused housing for women and families.  They also had a station for bracelet making and quilting.
After a prompting on Sunday,  I decided to take the kids with me to this months service night.  The night before we had a family home evening about service and small things we can be a part of to make a difference.  It was great!!!  The kids learned how to make loom hats for babies.  Baili & Kami finished one each and Ryan got half way done with a yellow one.  Jacob colored games for kids.  I hope they felt good about what they did, I felt the spirit of service and giving of our time for others.  The sleeping mats were really cool....I don't know how to crochet so I couldn't make those but they are amazing.  They're mats for the homeless made out of plastic bags, they roll up for a sleeping mat and are light weight and waterproof which is great for anyone living on the street.   It felt good to be a part of something small to make a difference plus we got to visit with Theresa's "Aunt Georgia" which is what the kids kept calling her when they needed her help...lol!  She was so proud that such young children were making loom hats.  That's her in the first picture teaching Kami.

Its a Girl!!!!!

Never in a million years did I think I would ever state that we have a dog, but guess what? we do and we are in L.O.V.E.  Sam and I have been adamant that we could never have a family pet because #1 we are way too busy, #2 they cost too much #3 the kids would not take care of them #4 who would watch it when were out of town, especially when we go to Florida for a long time.  The list went on from there, poop & pee on our floors, shedding, hair balls, puppies or kittens, weird smells in our house........
So one night a couple of weeks ago I was driving to pick up Baili from babysitting and saw a car stopped in the middle of the road up by our church.  I slowed down thinking there was an accident or someone was injured and saw a little something (someone) dash across the road.  An older man picked up the small scruffy dog and walked over to me.  I rolled down the window and he said "do you live around here, Im afraid someone is going to hit this dog"  No tags and no idea where it belonged, he said he lived in Summerlin (about 20 mins away from where we live) and looked at me like, "you should take the dog"  I actually did say to him, "I don't do dogs, I know nothing about them but I guess......I'll try to figure something out."  I took it through the window and she immediately snuggled up on the seat.  Omgosh, what did I get myself into?  I knew Baili would be ecstatic when she saw the dog and it was love at first sight.  Sam on the other hand named her "temp" for the first three weeks but is now warming up to the fact that he is out voted in the house.  So......after weeks of trying to find an owner here's the details on our new dog.....

We had such a fun time at Primm, NV with Nana. Mandy & her kids came with us also. The kids rode rides, played in the arcade & ate McDonalds. It was fun having Mam down for the a few days. The next day we had a pool party & lunch. SO nice to just hang out and visit.
